Biography

  • Lille is Grace Bellury, an eighteen year old songstress from Atlanta, GA. Born a poor asian boy, Grace accompanied his father and three sisters to America, where they sailed on a ship carrying spices to every corner of the earth. He was the friend of every swarthy sailor and sat up late at night in the cabins below the deck, the warm lantern glow radiating off the roughened yet kindly faces, spinning stories of exotic girls from every continent and exploits worthy of a Conrad novel. The sailors constructed papooses made from sturdy rope for Grace and his small sisters and they hung suspended from the ballast every night, sleeping peacefully
  • while the salty sea air gently kissed their faces. Captured by pirates at the age of ten, Grace grew into a beautiful young indian girl, winning the cold heart of the captain with her dulcet strumming on the small autoharp given her to entertain the cutthroat crew. To escape the lewd advances of the lecherous captain, Grace disguised herself as a young African man and fled to the coast of Nicaragua, where she was taken in by a hut-dwelling family who taught her the ancient music of Palo de Mayo and painted her face red with the seeds of the Rambutan fruit. After a short stint in the local prison for softly killing a police official with her
  • protest songs during the Marxist revolution, she hopped aboard a train headed for Northern France where she lived in a flat with two homosexual cats and briefly changed her name to Jeanne-Marie. While in France she was trained in the vocal stylings of the legendary lounge singer Emilie Saint-Marie and was seen frequently in the company of the great poet, Jacques Borgeat, with whom she was rumoured to be involved in a tragic love affair. Tiring of the pretensions and excesses of Parisian life, Grace moved to Atlanta, GA, took up the ukulele and started an indie-pop band called Lille.

    Lille Continues Meteoric Trajectory!

They open for The Dresden Dolls, November 13th, 2010 at the Buckhead Theater in Atlanta, GA. Helmed by 18-year old Grace Bellury, Lille's debut EP, Tall Shoulders, was released in June of 2010 and has garnered wide acclaim. "The only complaint that could come from this beautiful EP is that it's sweet taste will leave you craving for more" says Campus Circle Newspaper and Exclaim! said that Tall Shoulders "is an excellent introduction into what will most likely become a long legacy of hazy, haunting, mischievous music." Don't miss Lille in Atlanta in November!
